Overview

Job Description

Salary: Salary L6-L12

Hours of work: Full time

Contract type: Permanent

All about us:

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary is a small, nurturing school and with the imminent opening of an onsite nursery has ambitious plans for growth.

We’re looking for an ambitious and committed new head teacher to drive the school forward into the next phase.

Our unique, historic site crosses the old town walls and leads down to a secret space beside the river. We have the feeling of a village school, close links with St Aldhelm’s Catholic church, including a private path, the Nun’s Walk, which links church and school together.

We have a real sense of community and strong links with our wider Catholic family.

Alongside our academic achievements we have highly successful music and sport provision. Our children take part in carnival, perform musicals in Malmesbury Abbey, and sing for the elderly in their care homes. All students have the opportunity to compete in local and regional sporting events throughout the year.

Parents choose us because they want their children to grow in a family environment where every child is known by every member of staff, and they are guaranteed a faith-based education with a strong moral core. We welcome children of all faiths and none. We are proud of our inclusivity as we are of our unique learning environment.

All about the role:

We are looking for an ambitious and inspirational leader who is keen to continue our work and further develop both the school and our Catholic mission. We are also willing to provide support to an aspiring headteacher through continued professional development and mentoring to help them grow in post. We are on a journey into a MAT and the successful post-holder will be expected to help ensure a smooth transition.

We invite applications from people with:

  • a commitment to Catholic Education
  • a track record of school leadership
  • the ability to think strategically and be outward looking
  • a knowledge of the business of running a school
  • a friendly and fair approach to stakeholders
  • compassion and empathy and also the ability to make tough decisions
  • a desire to work collegiately with staff, parents, governors and the broader community
  • a child-centred approach to decision-making
  • the ability to navigate the changing educational landscape
